In the last couple of years, you must have noticed friends and neighbors making more of an effort to conserve and save the planet. Ever since documentaries like, “An Inconvenient Truth” and Planet Earth put global warming on the map or at least up for debate, many commuters have taken responsible steps and switched to driving hybrids like the popular Toyota Prius and the new Honda Insight. Going one better, there’s a growing group of adults who are now commuting to work and play on scooters and skateboards.
You must have seen them by now - commuters dressed for a work day as they zip past traffic on one of the new scooters on the market - they’re part of a growing trend of “Scooter Commuters” that’s gained clout among young professionals. Industry analysts are predicting a sizable increase of scooters on the nation’s city streets. Due to flourishing sales, most scooter dealers are consistently sold out regardless of the model type and quantity ordered. During a recession, Los Angeles commuter, Kate Knudson thinks that’s particularly telling, “Well it just makes sense, a scooter gets you where you want to go without the guilt associated with emissions, not to mention gas prices.” She adds with a smile that, “I sure get some stares at the gas station when I’m done with a full tank at $8.00 and the gal next to me is still pumping her car for over $50 bucks! This was the best investment I ever made!”
Knudsen points out her scooter and other popular models can get between 50 to 120 miles per gallon - that’s a fuel efficient vehicle that beats anything else on the market. In fact, saving money on gas has sent many car owners running to their nearest scooter dealer. Scooters, it should be noted are still motorcycles and require a motorcycle license to ride. They have a smaller engine and a lack of gear shifting and they have been around in most other countries for decades. In past five years U.S. scooter sales have skyrocketed and as gas prices climb the trend doesn’t seem likely to curb anytime soon. Since most dealers are sold out for the coming months, Venue is one of the few places that can get you a scooter on time, right to your door at unbeatable prices. Considering most scooters can run in the 2K range, these will thrill you at under $100!
